社長になりたいというヤツを面接するということ

＃復活エントリーその1

ここのところ無駄に忙しかったのは毎日毎日採用面接をしているということも理由のひとつなのです。
一人とみっちりと面談をすると約1時間。
それが多い日には4人とか重なるわけですから忙しいのは当たり前というわけでして。

色々な職種を募集していますので応募してきてくださる方々も多種多様となります。
話をしてみるだけでもこれまた面白いですし、自分にとっても刺激にもなるというもの。

話は飛びますが、若い頃にラジオの放送作家をやっている時にも来たハガキは何千枚であろうと全てに目を通していましたし、HotDogPressの新譜紹介を書いていた時にも届いた白カセは全曲聴くことを自分に課していました。
「ある特定のターゲットに対して寄せられる反応を全て自分の中で濾過する」とでもいいましょうか、リバースエンジニアリングといいましょうか逆アッセンブリといいましょうか、とまれ、採用面接に応募してくださる方々のお話を聞くことにより、世の中のあるターゲット層の就職意識のトレンドであるとか、自分達がどのような方向性を持っていると受け止められているのかということが逆取材できる貴重な時間でもあるのです。
ですからなるべく最優先して面接に出席しているというわけなのですね。

しかし先日の面接は辛かった。。。

30歳そこそこの男性だったのですが、英語も出来る、MBAも持っている、転職斡旋会社からの推薦文もかなり振るったものでした。
しかし…

彼は「30代のうちに社長、もしくは上場企業の役員になることが目標です」「今の会社ではスピードが遅い。IT系の中でもオンラインゲームの可能性が…（云々）」と得々とご説明なさるのです。
社長でありさえすればどの業界、またどういった業態であるかということには全く頓着していないとおっしゃるのです。思わず「会社というものは貴方を社長にするために存在する器ではありません」とか「社会貢献とか誇りを持って出来る仕事とかってなにか考えたことはありますか」「仕事の喜びってことについてはどうお考えですか」とかとか詰問しそうになる自分を抑えるのに精一杯でした。

数年来の知己である高城幸司さんは「君も、経営者になれる」というスローガンで経営メンバーという生き方を提案されています。
曰く、

サラリーマンでも、起業家でもない、もう一つの働き方、
それが「経営メンバー」です。

会社経営に携わる一員として、経営者をサポートしつつ、自分の権限で責任を持って
事業を推進していく人のことを指しています。

経営者の立場として企業の意思決定にかかわりたい。
自分の力を試したい。
今よりもさらに面白い仕事をしたい。
経済的に成功したい。

かといって、起業家として会社を立ち上げるのはリスクが多すぎる。

求めるところはミドルリスク・ミドルリターンなのだそうです。へー。
まぁ流行りってことなんでしょうかね。

立ち止まって考えます。
経営とは技術なのでしょうか？
やったこともない、愛したこともないものを、マニュアルどおりに操作することによって巧みに経営をこなせるという類のものなのでしょうか。
話は変わりますが、グロービスの堀さんがグロービスを立ち上げる直前にも同じ疑問を持ち数度議論をしたことがありますが、彼独自の「起業を起業する」というワンフレーズマーケティングを盾に「起業したこともない人が起業することを教えることなんでできるんですか？」という素朴すぎる問いには満足なお答えをいただけませんでした。（いや、僕の理解力が足りなかっただけなのかもしれませんが）
よくわからないことだらけではあります。

さてさて。
結局、その日面談した彼には我々の目標とする方向性をご説明して機嫌よく帰っていただきました。
せっかく時間を割いたのですから少なくとも我々のよき理解者になってもらって帰っていただこうと懇切丁寧に説明したというだけで採用することはありませんが。

ま、長々と書いてきましたが、こういうコンサルを目標とする若造ってさ、なんか素人童貞の癖に「ナンバーワンホストになりたいです」って言ってるような気がしてしょーがねーんだよなー。
