（追記：蒲田でセガ）

某方面から「蒲田でセガ」への突込みがあったので続きをば少々。

言うまでもないけどもこのところAMというかゲームセンターで遊ぶゲームが結構元気なのだ。
太鼓の達人なんかをはじめとする音ゲー、ムシキングとか三国志大戦といったカードバトル系、MJやマージャンファイト倶楽部といった通信対戦ボードゲーム、もちろん格闘ジャンルも根強い人気だし。


話は変わるけれども（ちゃんと後で戻ってくるです）「どうぶつの森」はやはりニンテンドウ64版でないとしっくりこないと思うのですよ。
あのカセットのメカニカルな厚みとブラックボックスっぽさがあってこそ、中に仮想の森の世界が内蔵されていそうな気がしてならないわけなのです。

これがゲームキューブの8cmの薄っぺらな円盤、それも書き込みできないことがわかっているキンキラキンの板の表面にはリセットさんだって住めやしないと感じてしまうわけなのですよ。

さてさてゲームに限ったことではなくて、例えばCMを作る時などは視聴者がどういった環境で見てくれているかわからないので「ま、この程度かなぁ」という非常にアバウトな想定環境で作るしかなくなるのですよ。
プラズマディスプレイのCMで「この圧倒的な表現力をご覧ください」とかやってしまったとしても、実際に視聴者の目の前でそれを映出しているのはピンのぼけた14インチの10年選手のブラウン管である可能性は決して低くはないのです。
とはいっても放送時間帯が朝のファミリー層狙いである場合には左上に「07:48」とか時刻表記が入ることを想定して情報関連のレイアウトは切ったりもします。でもできてもその程度なのだな。

んで放送番組の話に触れてみると、例えばテロップの文字の大きさなんかは現場では「ま、14インチでもなんとか読めるくらいにしとく？」「いやぁ17インチ程度でいいっしょ？」とかいうかなりアバウトなところで決定されていたりもする。
逆に言えば4:3で観られているのか16:9なのかも分からない、暗い部屋なのか明るい部屋なのか、音の状況、流し見なのかしっかり相対して観ているのか…　などなどもろもろが分かるはずもないという前提条件ではさまざまな事に関してあまりこだわるのも意味はさほどないというのも片一方での現状ではあるのですが。


さてこう考えると映画という媒体は時代が違うとはいいながらとても幸せな媒体であったことがそれとはなくお分かりになるでしょう。
視聴者は必ずや暗い部屋で画面に相対して集中して観てくれることが確約されており、カラーモノクロシネスコドルビー各環境も合っている（はず）、途中で退出することもない（はず）、ましてやハードディスクレコーディングされた上で1.5倍速で見られてしまうことも絶対にないことが分かっているからだ。

これが家庭用ビデオ機器で再生される映像コンテンツや携帯機以外の家庭用ゲームとなると若干様子が異なるわけで、その点でいうとゲームセンターで遊ばれるAM機器はハードの特性とぴたりとマッチさせることができる、という意味で非常に面白いというわけなのだ。

さてハウス・オブ・ザ・デッド4の話に戻りますか。
筐体には100インチ（ほんとか？）の画面と持ち重りのするハンドガンコントローラーがセットになっている。コントローラーを上下に振ると薬莢が飛び出て弾がリフィルされ左右に振ればしがみついてきた化け物どもを振り払うことになる。
画面の大きさと筐体本体の位置が理にかなっており、130cmから200cm程度の身長の幅であれば過不足なく画面の隅々に照準を合わせることができるだろう。いや小さい子供だと筋力的に画面の端から端まで癌コントローラーを動かすだけでも重労働かもしれないけども。

…と、当たり前のことを書いては見たのではありますが、これら諸条件全てを家庭用ゲームで再現してもらうのは至難の業だということは言うまでもないわけでして。
バランスがとられているからこそゲーム自体の難易度調整の妙ともあいまって連コイン可能なのめりこみ方も計算されうるというわけなのです。

んでもって逆にCG自体は昨今のPCや家庭用次世代ゲーム機からするとさして驚くほどのクオリティではなくて、要はプレイヤーの目の画角や臨場感のあるサウンドやハンドガンを持つ手の稼動範囲や画面を追いかけるスピード…　などといった諸条件がバランスしていれば、CGなんぞは別段あの程度でいいのだ、ということなのだと思うわけなのですよ。

PCゲームに関して言えば…　というところまでで今日はおしまいっと。
後はどっかの会合ででも、と。
次の鉄騎はコントローラーだけではなくディスプレイとサウンドシステムも同梱するというのはいかがだろうか？　え？　それじゃゲーセンキットと一緒だって？　そらそうでんがな。

I'm disappointed and frustrated with this upgrade. Firstly,, I had to do the upgrade on my Toshiba laptop since iTunes 10 won't go on my non-Intel iMac G5! Then I tried to sync my now fully-up-to-date 3G on the iMac and, of course, it won't sync because it requires iTunes 10! Apple is not playing nice with those of us who haven't updated our hardware in the past two or three years. Performance-wise there's absolutely no improvement. The Camera App still takes 6/7 seconds to open while most other Apps take several seconds to respond. I loved my original iPhone and was enjoying this 3G model until the iOS 4 upgrades. I'd never jailbreak, so I'm stuck with an under-performing mobile phone and a sour taste in my mouth regarding Apple. Like Karen, I'd have loved to get the iPHone 4 but it's beyond my budget (currently €199 on an upgrade with O2 Ireland while the Galaxy S is only €50!). I'm very fond of the whole iOS way of doing things and don't want to learn the Android way. Microsoft's new phone system has no appeal whatsoever and Palm and RIM are not my cup of tea. I've checked out the Nokia N8 and it's starting to look very attractive ¨C if I can find it at the right price! Any suggestions for a guy who would love to stay with Apple but feels let down? rip blu ray to mkv I'm excited about the possibilities of maybe a software home button. I have a lot of trouble with the home button not working properly. I thought it would be an issue when they showed off multitasking. When plastic hardware is used that much, it will soon ware out.
